Jennifer loves going to school. That particular morning, she was sitting at the table, having her pancakes and milk, looking forward to seeing her friends and working on her Spring project. 'Guess what', said mummy, 'I have a great surprise for you. I will be waiting for you when school finishes, I can't wait to show you!' Jennifer couldn't wait to find out what her surprise was. In between bites of her pancake, she begged her mummy to tell her what would be happening after school. Mummy told her she had to work hard at school and wait patiently. It was really hard to be patient. ESPECIALLY when a surprise was coming!
When she was waiting in line for her teacher, Miss Brown, to call the class in, Jennifer wondered about the surprise her mummy had waiting for her. She wondered at playtime, and she wondered at lunch. She even wondered when she was doing her sums, which was a bit naughty!
When school finished, Jennifer ran out of her classroom as quickly as she could. There was mummy, with a big smile on her face, and a BIKE beside her! It had a bell that made the most brilliant 'ding' sound, coloured streamers and a pink basket! Jennifer couldn't believe it! She had wanted a shiny, sparkly bike just like this for so long! And now, here it was!
When they got home, Jennifer went straight back outside with her brilliant new bike. She was just getting on when a little girl who lived across the road came over. 'Wow, cool bike. I'd love one like that'. 'Maybe your mummy could get you one', Jennifer said. The little girl told her that her mummy didn't have any money for any treats, especially not a treat as expensive as a bike. 'Can I have a go?' Jennifer looked at her amazing new bike. She been just about to get on and ride it for the first time. 'No, I haven't had a go yet'. The little girl walked away, looking sad. Jennifer felt a bit worried about this, but she really wanted to ride her bike. So off she whizzed, coloured streamers flying.
The next day, Jennifer raced home from school, ready to take her new bike out for another spin. The little girl from across the road ran over. 'Mummy says you can come for tea if you like', she said. 'Yaay! I'll check with my mummy', said Jennifer. A while later, they were sitting at the little girl's kitchen table munching on sausage and chips. 'Yummy', thought Jennifer, as she tucked in, dipping her chips in tomato sauce.
After tea, the two girls went out to play together. They were playing mummies and daddies with their dolls, sitting in the garden. After a while, they could hear their two mummies talking. 'You really shouldn't have done that, you shouldn't have gone without your tea', said Jennifer's mummy. 'I wanted to give them a treat, my little girl doesn't get too many treats these days'. Jennifer was amazed. She thought that her friend's mummy was so kind, she wanted to be kind too. So she and the little girl went out to play on the bike together. After that, Jennifer and her friend took it in turns to ride the amazing bike. And Jennifer thought that was much more fun than playing by herself.
I look forward to hearing from you.
