When a couple moves into a quieter area at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Dream becomes a foreign nightmare... for one of them.
SHORT SYNOPSIS:
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, a happily married couple moves into a beautiful house, in pursuit of The American Dream. However, Alice hasn’t been herself since their move, and Cory has given her enough time and space. Now, he’s reached the point where he needs to confront her about her behavior, and he needs to know what’s causing it.
Confronting Alice makes her worse. On top of Cory’s already elevated stress levels, horrifying occurrences begin, inside and around the house; 20 missed calls on their landline, seemingly paranormal events, a pizza delivery that no one ordered, masked intruders roaming in the living room.
Following a chain of disturbing events, flashbacks take over his mind, and he remembers a TV show and a podcast, where a company’s project was to duplicate robotic versions of actual humans, and determine how believable they are, by secretly deploying them in places such as retail stores, gas stations and shopping malls, and monitoring the way that people interact with them. However, after many locations were shut down due to COVID-19, the company was seeking other areas for their project.
Enduring the most disturbing night of his life, Cory discovers that Alice never moved into the house with him. He’s been living with an artificial intelligence duplicate of her, designed so accurately to look, behave and feel like a human. The company is using him as one of the lab rats for their project, observing his reactions towards her, so they can determine how believable she is. But, since she’s been malfunctioning, they’re here to fix that situation, and if they know that he knows, he will be killed.
