Display Images on a preset space using PHP , JavaScript and HTML

I am looking for a PHP (procedural) / Javascript / HTML page with code to show how to populate a pre-determined space (DIV) in HTML by reading some images (.jpeg/.png) from all the subfolders of one main folder on a remote server. I should be able to provide few variables including the length and the width of the space where to display the images and the program should automatically read all the images in any of the sub folders under the main folder and optimized the space available to display the images. I should also be able to set the size of the image from 40 x 40px, 80x80 or 120px to 120px and how many images I would like to have displayed on a row and how many rows to have. The final deliverables for this project will be a php page with the source code. Notes: If there is a border size for the individual spaces it should be calculated on top of the size of the image. So if the image size is 40 and the border size is 2 then the space required will be 42 and the program will have to optimized the space available for each row of images. Whatever space is left because it cannot be used should be divided by 2 and displayed as additional padding .
