LQG Controller for Load Relief Control of a Flexible Launch Vehicle
TENCON 2019 - 2019 IEEE Region 10 Conference (TENCON)
In this work, a 13th order model of the launch vehicle is developed. All practically unmeasured states in the model are estimated to circumvent the need for dedicated sensors for direct measurement avoiding further complexities in the design and reducing the cost. A 9th order load relief controller was designed using LQG technique and was found to give satisfactory load relief as well as attitude tracking performances.

The job of a load relief control system is to minimize the effective aerodynamic loading on the launch vehicle along with keeping the trajectory dispersion within allowable limits. This paper discusses the design of an estimator based load relief controller using LQG technique for the 5th order combined rigid body and flexibility model of a launch vehicle.
