I am looking to start the first phase of a multiple phase project to create an American Football game that can be played head to head vs another player. The first phase is to let two players play against each other by selecting plays, and lets the engine run the play in high visual quality. Players will not control the individual players, but instead manage the game at a higher level by building the team and the playbook and play selection..
This phase will need to support the follow basic functionality:
1) Let a player select a play (offense or defense depending which side they are on) and submit to server for resolution.
2) Players may switch plays until the play is started (the playbook will define which plays can be switched to)
3) Once the final play is submitted, the server will send back the results, which will be displayed in cinematic effect to the players.
4) Repeat until the game is over.
The the game is set in the future, so the players will be managing and building a roster of specialized cyber robot players. The building and management of the robots will be external and done as separate phase. As players play they will collect in game points to spend on better / fancier models for their team, better plays, etc. The backend will also eventually support match making. This phase just needs to handle the actual game play. Building the teams and finding players to play will be external. When the game play module is launched it will have a key that is used to find out the player info, what models to load, etc.
I will be coding the back-end myself. I need someone with good unity3D skills to handle the cinematics / game play. I'd also like to learn unity as we go, but not be a bottle neck to getting each phase complete. Once we finish the first phase, we will tweak the resolution parameters and variables used when building a team and selecting a play. Once we are happy with the algorithm, we will build the UI components as a follow up phase.
