Help with small open-source project Xkb-Switch

Hi. I have a small OpenSource project xkb-switch ( [login to view URL] )

The utility is designed to switch keyboard layouts from text console in Linux. It worked until recently, but, unfortunately, on modern systems it often incorrectly detects layouts.

The job is to rewrite code querying keyboard layouts from X-server.

Currently, the it looks like

[login to view URL]

and returns layouts in form of std::string, which have to be parsed by the application. Instead, I'd like it to use some other form of API which would return the list of layouts as-is, for example, in form of std::map<Handle,Layout>.

Its OK to copy-and paste it from some other OpenSource projects working with keyboard layouts. GNOME or XFCE tools come to mind.
