Konkurransesammendrag

We are looking for a figure design for a scientific publication. Submissions will be required to pass a plagiarism/copyright check, must be original and come with all copyright permission to publish within the article and potentially other press releases. The winning artist must state that entries are their original work and must agree to allow this work to be published by the journal as well as the contest runner's website.

The figure will be part of a scientific review article and should schematically illustrate the various layers (3 in total) of plant-microbe research. The different layers will be arranged on top of each other providing a 3D perspective. All objects of the layers should be schematic and illustrated in 3D.
Top layer (layer 1 "METAORGANISM"): represents the "organismic level", showing bacteria and few eukaryotic microorganisms (e.g. fungi and oomycetes) living on a leaf surface. Microorganisms should be drawn in different colors and might have different shadings of the same color.
The middle layer (layer 2 "METAGENOME") represents the metagenome of this plant-microbe metaorganism (from layer 1). This metagenome level is formed by a random order of letters of the genetic code (A, T, G and C). The letters should be colored according to the organisms in the top "organismic" layer, so that colored patches of letters roughly reflect the distribution of microorganisms on the plant surface.
The lower layer (layer 3 META-OME) represents the "molecular layer" of the organisms, a less structured organization of three different symbols (representing metabolites, RNA and proteins). The symbols should be arranged in distinct but interconnected clusters of a more complex network (similar to "systems biology networks"; see Google Images for various examples), each cluster containing the three different types of symbols for each organism present in the top "organismic layer" and should be colored accordingly.
The three layers should have different size, the top layer smaller than the middle, the middle smaller than the lowest (like a pyramid).
Above (or potentially around) all these three layers, environmental influences, e.g. like solar radiation, rain, insects should be indicated.
We are of course happy to provide additional information if needed.

Hi, I'm changing the logo that I sent you, and I'm putting all the objects in 3D.
    Best regards.

Do you want illustrations like the ones you have allready received as entries or you want "real" 3d work and rendering done?

I imagined the figure with more perspective, kind of looking at all objects from the front, so that layers and bacteria etc. appear three-dimensionally with the right perspective. However, the objects should not be photorealistic, but illustrated and simplified to a certain degree.

Here is another more schematic example of bacteria growing on the leaf surface:

Is there any specific part of the figure that you guys need examples of? Unfortunately I do not have an example of the overall figure, and also I do not want to bias your illustrations by giving a too specific example...

Here is a link showing how bacteria grow on leaves:
