Design a Logo for my kiteboarding company

I own a company called Extreme Sports Dallas that offers both kiteboarding instruction and gear sales. The company has two websites (one focusing on local customers for lessons www.extremesportsdallas.com and the other for national sales www.kinetickiteboarding.com. The goal is to convert the national sales site's name to esD Kiteboarding to better tie it to the local site. Toward that end, we need a new, fresh logo for the esD Kiteboarding site. The logo will be used on the site, brochures, business cards and employee t-shirts on both black and white backgrounds. The logo should be simple and memorable while reflecting the energy, power and dynamism of the sport of kiteboarding in a symbolic way that also conveys professionalism. Since kiteboarding is both a wind and water sport, some degree of incorporation of those elements might make sense. Obviously, the logo should be unique and not readily confused with any other kiteboarding company's logo. I envision two variations of the same logo theme - one symbol-only and the other incorporating text.

Of our favorite designs, most turned out to be straight copies of existing kiteboarding company logos - same graphics, colors and everything. Several of you pointed out this fact to us. It was frustrating to get our hopes up only to learn that the designs were copies. Other logos just stole some of the design features of exiting company logos - one person submitted the American Airlines Eagles symbol. There were also many original entries and I know many others worked hard on their designs, but we just didn't like any of them as much as the ones that turned out to be copies of known logos, so rather than awarding the prize to a design we wouldn't use or to one that was stolen, we awarded it to someone who we'll now work with to develop a logo that is wholly original and trusted.

  You made a voluntary decision to submit your entries - you had a 1 in 255 chance of winning and you knowingly invested whatever time you spent. No one stole anything from you. All of your submissions had been rejected well prior to our final decision and therefore none were under consideration. The winning entry did not steal his designs, he was the one who made them for our website. It was our contest, our money and our decision and there could only be one winner.   Please find this Logo #125 and #110 on google or some where else... please give me a link if you find something seem same like that logo. it just a simple Logo but need time to shape it, i just hope dont do that again coz you make a lot of people here mad, tired and disappointed. Regard.

  We were just left so deflated by all the copies and stolen logos - many seemed to either directly copy Destination Kiteboarding's logo http://www.destinationkiteboarding.com/ or create variations on the same theme - right down to the color and direction of the kite graphic. Others either stole or borrowed heavily from http://nykitecenter.com/ Of our final contestants 90% were either discovered to be copies or suspected of being (since it would take a while to track down the original source material). Your own variation on Destination Kiteboarding's logo was enough changed that we didn't consider it a direct copy, but when we showed it around, people asked us if we were deliberately trying to look like Destination's logo.

  I can only tell you that we established this contest in good faith, paid all the fees and walked away without usable IP. We are also aware that many designers submitted good faith efforts as well, but there was only ever going to be one happy contestant out of 245. Our money is spent, your time is spent and the contest is over - no one is happy. Perhaps our expectations were too high or we were overly ambitions and naive to think we could find wholly original design in a two day contest for $100. In any case, I apologize to anyone who feels they didn't get their fair shot at the 1 in 245 chance for the prize. I assure you we will not be using any original contest submissions for our site and invite you all to check our site regularly to satisfy yourselves. As for us, we're done with contest and are going back to working with the people we know and trust. Even if we don't' get the most creative and cool looking logo at least we'll know it's original and legally ours.

  Everyone who submitted original, honest work had an equal opportunity to win the contest. It was our contest, our money and our choice. You're not the one who has to pay for and use the logo selected in this contest. You submitted entries knowing you had a small, but fair chance of being selected as the winner and unfortunately we did not consider your submissions to be good matches for us. If you feel wronged or that we are unlawfully using your designs or other IP then please formally accuse us of wrongdoing so we can address your charges directly. Otherwise, please accept our thanks for your submissions and our best wishes for the future.

  There is no benefit to choosing yourself. You still paid the $35 contest fee and the 10% prize fee and receive nothing in return. If you liked a submission, then the best financial decision would be to select it as the winner. We selected a submission from the local guy who does much of our website work since we didn't want to select any of the copied clipart or stolen logos and didn't find any original logos that we loved in the contest. Can't we select the winner of our choice in the contest we paid for?

  I invite you to watch our site daily to see if we use any of the logo submissions from this contest - though it will be difficult to tell since so many were straight copies of existing logos and clipart.
