Effluent Filter Concept

Here at GroundStone, we specialize in soil testing, septic designing and installing systems for residential and commercial properties. The most basic and important component of the system is the septic tank. At the end of the tank in the outlet baffle is what is called an effluent filter. This filter helps block large suspended solids from making their way out into the drain field where the wastewater gets treated in the soil. Too much accumulation of these suspended solids can eventually clog the soils and cause malfunction to the system. Most of these Effluent filters are made of plastic and do an average job of keeping these solids inside the tank. We figure there is a better solution. One day I (Luis, owner of GroundStone) I thought about the Baleen of a whale's mouth and how efficient it was at separating seawater from the krill, the small sea life that is necessary for the whale's diet. The Baleen is bristle-like and has small fibrous hairs on the ends, it is extremely efficient at separating the Krill. I would like to adopt a design with a material that can emulate the Baleen but introduce it as an effluent filter. The filter should fit snug into a 4 inch (10cm) outlet baffle leading out of a septic tank. I would like to post the opportunity to develop such a product with a similar material that can emulate the whale's Baleen. The wastewater needs to travel up through the filtration device and be efficient at letting water pass with ease but block the solid matter from leading to the drain field. The effluent filter is normally 10 cm in diameter to fit into the baffle and about 45 cm in length. There are bristle effluent filters as well but these are not efficient and quickly get misshapen in the baffle. I look forward to some ideas. Luis
