Hi, I have experience in such projects. I have done similar analysis when analyzed open questions in some survey (people just describe problems using own different words and sentence). I used R for this. This problem is enough complicated in takes some times. I solved it investigated unique words and its frequencies. Further, I created the set of the words which corresponds certain themes (in that case - certain issues). This process is some arbitrary, but I think there is no other ways (if themes are not initially known) as aggregate key words in themes based on logic and own experience. Then each answer (interview) can be assigned to e certain themes based on key words. I estimate it more that 40 hours of work because I know how much time it can take in reality. I currently work with an Australian University in the Career Department and am very familiar performing statistical analyses on interview and other job related data. To identify the themes from your interview, I would run an analysis in NVivo. Firstly, I would run a word frequency analysis to determine the most commonly used words. I would then review interview questions, and assign interviewee responses to these questions to nodes based on findings. I would identify themes within each response.
