We have a Unix print server (FreeBSD, LPR).
We have a web page that reports the queue status, ie
"pr-nyc01:
queuing is enabled
printing is enabled
no entries in spool area
printer idle"
Our printing process includes a postscript checking programme which ensures all print jobs are good postscript. Any jobs that have bad postscript are rejected. The postscript file is moved into a separate folder for further investigation.
We want to add further information this web page about which jobs have been processed, by whom, and also report if the job has been rejected.
The reporting page should use the existing logs (lpd-errs) which already amended to contain user information to present live feedback from the print server.
Simplicity is the key, shell or awk scripting should be sufficient; C maybe an option.
Freelancer working from home/office is ideal.
