I run a membership website. Traffic comes from various sources, I wish to record from where my sales originate. I envisage the solution as follows. 1) When someone first enters my site a cookie is written to their PC storing the http_referrer URL. 2) When someone first enters my members area the contents of the cookie (referral URL is emailed to me) and then the cookie is changed to identify that an email has already been sent. I see the flow of the system as follows. On my [url removed, login to view] in the free area a script checks all visitors to see if a cookie from my site exists. If it does, do nothing, if it doesn't write the http_referrer URL to a cookie On my [url removed, login to view] page in my members area a script checks for a cookie from my site. If a cookie is found that does not contain the words 'existing member' send me a simple email with the cookie contents (The referral URL), then replace the cookie contents with the words 'existing member' This is a repeat request as the first completed script sadly wasn't suitable.
