Each and every University undergraduate business major is required to take these courses. 364,000 unit sales occur each year and I am competing against new editions that sell for more than $200 and as much as $300, so I treat these texts as “normal goods” and “commodities,” in that I compete based on price. The accounting courses are usually taken at the sophomore level and I have positive reviews from classroom testing. Here is an example of the cost of a new edition at $299.95. Is my book for $3 as good as the book for $300? Of course not. Don’t be silly. For example, to get the cost down I had to use greyscale and could not use color. At 100 times the cost for my book, is their book 100 times better than mine? You decide. My cost to produce each text for sale is $518, and I earn $1.50 royalty per copy or unit of the e-book sold, so I break-even at about 345 e-book unit sales. These texts can be used as supplements or to replace existing texts. I am committed to continuously improving these texts through later editions. These will follow with $2.99 e-books on [5] CORPORATE FINANCE and [6] BUSINESS STATISTICS. Have I taught all of these courses? Yes, between five and thirteen times depending on the topic (1983-). Furthermore, I have been engaged for “work-for-hire” assignments on all of these subjects. These experiences provided me with a bit of insider information with respect to publisher techniques used make earlier editions obsolete or unusable. I can, quite simply, take a 20-year old text, supplement it with a few pages of contemporary material, and I have the equivalent content of a new $299 text.
