Assignment Details

You are provided with the plans (see attachments) for a building that will require a smoke control system of some form (natural or mechanical) to protect the means of escape provision from a specific area.

In groups of 2 or 3 (groups to be specified) design the system to maintain a clear layer to enable people to evacuate beneath. Use standard smoke control hand calculations and compare the results with those of detailed CFAST modelling and/or FDS modelling.

A report of approximately 6,000 - 9,000 words should be produced detailing the project.

As a minimum the report should include:

An introduction to the problem.

Basic building information.

The smoke control calculations performed (in detail).

An explanation of the CFAST/FDS modelling performed and the results obtained.

A detailed comparison, critical analysis and discussion of the methods used and the results obtained.

Conclusions.

The word limit is 3,000 words per student (+/-10%). This excludes footnotes but includes

quotations. The word count must be printed on the top right hand corner of your work.

These calculations are also missing. Do I have to do all the calculations?

Yes, You need to do all calculation in two ways. First one by hand calculation and second one by FDS modelling at the end compare both result and design good smoke control system for the building.

This can only be done in the University by the students during the lecture Labs. I need them asap as well.

You need to use FDS only because I am going to write 6000 words only . draw the building by using FDS input your scenario and compare the result with your hand calculation.
