"Design the layout of users, domains, servers, customers and anonymous users, etc for a start-up Application Development Company registered as XYZ.com. The company has 120 software application developers and test engineers. There are other employees engaged in different departments such as HR, Sales & Marketing, IT (technical support), Accounting and Finance among others. However in this project you need to implement at least the following requirements.

Requirements:

All developers should have access two internal CVS servers (only internal developers can access it). These servers are available 24/7 through the year by means of secure access.

Note: CVS stands for Concurrent Versions System. It is a versioning control

system, which allows developers keep the old versions of files (usually source

code). It keeps also a log record of who, when, and why changes to files occurred, among others.

There are also two other CVS servers one for anonymous users (public) to download some of the source codes available for testing and one secure server for customers who want to run their own custom designed applications in a test environment.

Figure 1: Web/Commerce servers All clients should be able to purchase software

application products by means of web access.

There are a few web/commerce servers (see figure

1) connected to the Internet. They are setup to provide: a) redundancy b) load balancing and c) a secure online environment for purchasing software products. When customers’ credit information has been verified, the authorized clients can download the purchased product. A copy of all transactions (purchased items) will be saved in Finance server.

Also customers post sales service & support is provided through the CRM server. The company has also an internal web server (for employees) and an internal email server. It is crucial that outsiders should not be able to access internal CVS, internal email or internal web servers.

You need to implement a multi-tier infrastructure network with proper server

arrangements including but not limited to:

a) Application & Database servers

b) Middleware servers: Authentication server

c) Network Infrastructure LAN & WAN

d) DMZ servers (you need to setup these servers)

Company’s Policies:

You need to deploy company’s detailed policy regarding:

- LAN and WAN Authentication policies

- Security polices (methods and technologies)

- Delivery of software to clients

- Payment policies

- Anonymous download of available codes

- Information Privacy (including customers’ privacy protection)

In addition, you should provide a detailed outline of your company’s strategy for monitoring the network activities and response to incidents (e.g. hacking, DDOS attacks etc).

Your report should include:

1. A topology diagram of your multi-tier network infrastructure. For example, where are the locations of different servers, and firewalls, and where are the users located in the topology.

2. The detailed assumptions that you make for your design regarding the project

requirements and how to achieve these assumptions.

3. Use a mix of tables, figures, and highlights of critical analysis to professionally demonstrate your work.

Your project grading will be offered according to your contribution to the project.

You need to submit your final draft (a professional document) to [url removed, login to view] no later than the date posted on Bb. Only one member of group should submit the final draft.

Please do not forget to include all group members’ names and student IDs along with their contribution to project (e.g., Bill Gates: Information Privacy & Topology Diagram…).
