Sample of how the paper should be done:

The response paper is meant to help you read a philosophical selection deeply and reflect on it.

The format below is to be followed for each paper. You are expected to write clearly and concisely, proofread your papers, and type them in Times New Roman, font size 12. You will submit the paper in ecampus. The paper is due by 10:00 p.m. on the due date in ecampus.

The paper should be about 750 words long. You have a 50 word leeway in either direction, but part of the assignment is in saying what needs to be said completely yet concisely so it can be no shorter than 700 words and no more than 800.

Remember to use MLA format and include a works cited page.

Paragraph 1: List what you consider to be the main points in the reading. You should list at least FOUR main points.

Paragraph 2: Using the main points you have recalled, write a brief summary of the reading. Attempt to briefly summarize the main arguments. This summary should take up no more than a half page.

Paragraph 3: List at least FOUR questions that you have after reading the article. Are there particular things that you didn't understand? Do not make up questions for the sake of listing questions. A philosophical writing should spur lots of genuine questions. If you can’t think of any, read the selection again.

Paragraph 4: Directly quote from the article. Which quotations really took your attention? Which quotations perplexed you? Which quotations did you particularly like or dislike? In each case, tell why chose the quotation. List at least THREE quotations. Remember to use MLA format.

Paragraph 5: In what way can you connect the selection to your own life experience? Can you connect it with other aspects of your college work? How does it connect to the other parts of this course?

Paragraph 6: Write evaluative comments about the selection. Did the author make a good case for his/her position? Was it good? Why? Was it not so good? Why? Provide any specific points or parts that you liked or disliked. Say why you liked or disliked them.
