How good is the GoDaddy Website Builder?

What is the GoDaddy Website Builder?

As one of the largest domain registrar and web hosting companies worldwide, GoDaddy has probably been your go-to for locking down a domain name at some stage. But what you might not have realized on your brief visits with the Don of domain trading is its very own website builder option. Like Squarespace and Wix, GoDaddy Website Builder does what it says on the tin, giving you the tools to build your website from scratch, with no required coding experience.
Is GoDaddy's Website Builder as good as the well-established competition? Let's take a look.

Quick verdict: Super user-friendly with some serious limitations

The one thing that stands out about GoDaddy's Website Builder tool is just how user friendly it is. Its editor tool is a breeze to work with, and the SEO and analytics features will be all a beginner needs to get started. However, the limitations posed by its editor, and the thin appeal of its templates, will make more experienced and creative users think twice.

What we like:

Super user-friendly and agile: Considering this is a beginner's perspective, we can't overstate GoDaddy's ease-of-use. It's not just a super intuitive drag-and-drop builder; the whole process is buttery smooth, from signing up to publishing a website. It might just be the quickest, simplest builder for publishing small business websites with no experience. This ease of use brings with it some creative limits, sure, but more advanced users will probably be better off with Wix. v
SEO Wizard:  The SEO Wizard is an excellent way for beginners to introduce themselves to the cruel and unforgiving world of Search Engine Optimisation. That's not the say that GoDaddy is the best choice for SEO (Wix is better in our opinion), but it's a solid stepping stone to help you on your way to something more advanced. The only issue is, GoDaddy blocks SEO support on the Basic tier (which is where you'll find most beginners!).
No bandwidth limits: Most website builders charge you a premium for extra bandwidth and storage, forcing you to upgrade when you hit that cap. Even GoDaddy Website Builder's Basic plan has no data storage limit.

What could be better:

SEO features blocked at Basic: There are quite a few tools and features blocked at the Basic tier, but the lack of SEO support is the biggest omission. It's a shame, because GoDaddy's SEO tools are intuitive and easy to learn, an excellent choice for beginners. But a lot of users testing out GoDaddy's Basic tier will be put off by the missing features.
Themes and templates aren't very appealing: Squarespace doesn't have a lot of templates at its disposal, but the small, curated selection it does offer are some of the cleanest, and user-friendly available. GoDaddy, on the other hand, offers almost as few (just over 100 at last count), but overall the quality isn't as appealing as the competition.
Not a lot of support options: GoDaddy Website Builder scored low for customer support in our review. Our experiences with live chat and phone support weren't the issue necessarily (though it was hard to get a straight answer at times), it's just the lack of support channels available.

Godaddy Website Builder cost

Without considering the features packed in, GoDaddy Website Builder's plans are priced to compete with Wix. Each of the four tiers offered is priced within $1 to $2 of Wix's plans.
Basic: $10 per month
Standard: $15 per month
Premium: $20 per month
Ecommerce: $25 per month
One thing we don't like about GoDaddy Website Builder's plans is the features it blocks at the Basic tier. Things like SEO support, basic e-commerce features, and online payments are all blocked at the bottom tier. Paying for Standard unlocks SEO features, but online payments aren't available until you hit Premium.

Our score

Pricing: 3.75/5
Templates: 3/5
Support: 2.5/5
SEO: 3/5
Usability: 4/5
Flexibility: 2.5/5
Total: 3.5/5
